Aztech Buildings recently completed an EcoBarn for a dairy farming operation in Southland, creating a practical covered environment to support feed management, animal wellbeing and greater control during challenging ground and weather conditions. 

Designed as a roof over a stand-off pad with bedding beneath, the EcoBarn offers many of the practical benefits of housing cows under cover without requiring the farm to invest in a full composting barn system.

It provides a cost-effective step into covered dairy infrastructure, helping the farm protect its paddocks and manage cows more effectively during wet periods.

A tailored solution that worked within the farm’s budget

Every farming system has different operational requirements, environmental pressures and investment considerations.

For this project, the farmer wanted the benefits of getting cows off paddock and under cover, but a full composting barn was not the right fit for the available budget. The Aztech team worked with the farmer to develop an EcoBarn solution suited to the farm’s needs and longer-term goals.

The completed structure provides a covered stand-off area with bedding underneath, creating a more comfortable environment for cows while supporting practical feed and effluent management.
