The Cawte composting barn is a 100 x 20 m structure made of Futura Steel Box-Beam. Its steel cladding, box gutters on both sides, gable roof, and translucent roof sheeting allow natural light to enter each bay.

The herd can spread out and remain dry in the barn during the wettest months, moving from wet, pugged paddocks to dry, aerated bedding that promotes freshwater and effluent compliance without reducing pasture time. During hot spells in the summer, milk production is protected by the same airflow and shade. Additionally, feeding in the barn reduces waste compared to feeding out on the paddock, where over 25% can be lost due to spoiling and trampling.
