Currently under construction in Awatuna, the Clayton-Greene Composting Barn is a gable structure with dimensions of 86 m by 45.5 m across 14 bays (6.14 m centres), totalling 3,913.09 m². With stepped heights of 4.55m–11.94m–4.55m at an 18° pitch, it is supported by H5-treated timber pole columns and runs on Futura galvanised steel box-beam rafters, purlins, and girts.

Composting barns are widely used across NZ dairy operations for the shelter and comfort they offer, helping protect cows from weather extremes and supporting drier, healthier bedding through good airflow and ventilation. Good design, orientation, roof pitch, overhangs, and ventilation for cow comfort play a key role in how well a barn performs day to day.
