Inside the Barn:
The Aztech Composting Barn Roadshow

Step inside working composting barns and hear directly from the farmers using them

This September and October, Aztech is taking the composting barn conversation on the road, a farmer-led roadshow across six dairy regions in New Zealand, from Northland to Southland.

This is your chance to visit a working Aztech composting barn, hear from the host farmer, walk through the structure, and ask practical questions about cow comfort, wintering, bedding management, feed efficiency, effluent, design decisions and long-term farm infrastructure planning.

Spaces are limited at each location. Registration is required.

Each event is hosted on a working dairy farm, with the host farmer sharing their own experience of planning, building and using a composting barn.

A brochure can only tell you so much. Standing inside a working barn and hearing directly from the farmer using it gives you a much clearer view of what is involved. You'll be able to ask practical questions, see how the barn fits into a real farm system and better understand what to consider before starting your own planning process.

What You'll Experience on the Day

Each roadshow stop will be practical, relaxed and farmer-led. The focus is on seeing the barn in action and hearing real experience from the people using it.

On the day, you can expect:

  • A guided walkthrough of a working composting barn.
  • The host farmer’s story, including why they built it and what they have learnt.
  • Discussion around cow comfort, wintering, bedding, tilling and day-to-day barn management.
  • Practical insight into design, airflow, cow flow, feed and water layout, access and planning.
  • Input from Aztech and rural professionals.
  • Time for Q&A, lunch and informal conversations.
  • The opportunity to discuss your own project timing or next steps with the Aztech team.

Who Should Attend?

This roadshow is designed for dairy farmers who are considering composting barns, feedpad covers, cow housing or future farm infrastructure investment.

It's also useful if you are:

  • Planning ahead for the 2027 season and beyond.
  • Looking for better wintering or wet-weather management.
  • Interested in improving cow comfort and farm workflow.
  • Considering how a barn could fit into their wider farm system.
  • Wanting to understand the practical realities before making an investment decision.

We welcome rural professionals and industry partners to attend and add value to the discussion.
